Paramedic Lead Instructor

Erik Carlsen, NRP

Erik Carlsen is the Lead Instructor for the Paramedic program at the Hospital Hill campus. Mr. Carlsen has experience as a paramedic in the Kansas City region, having worked as a paramedic, EMS educator, and Paramedic Lead Instructor for the former MAST system. He currently is an Assistant Division Chief in the Professional Development Bureau of the Kansas City (MO) Fire Department, and has been with the UMKC Paramedic program since the first Paramedic class in 2012.

EMT Lead Instructor

William Gulick II, B.S., NRP

Originally from Pennsylvania, Bill Gulick came to Kansas City to work as a Paramedic in the MAST system. Bill has been a field paramedic, supervisor, educator, and EMS manager in a variety of focus areas. He is currently a Division Chief for the Kansas City (MO) Fire Department addressing health, safety, and risk management issues. Bill is the Lead Instructor for the EMT programs held on the Hospital Hill campus, coming to the UMKC program in 2013.

Clinical Coordinator

John Borel, BAS, NRP

Mr. Borel is responsible for the scheduling, auditing, grading and tracking of the clinical and field experience of our EMT and Paramedic students. Mr. Borel is a paramedic with experience working in the past for the Taney County Ambulance District and the Western Taney County Fire Protection District. He currently works as a Flight Paramedic for Life Flight Eagle, and started with the UMKC program in 2013.
