Meet Andrew Balk
Biography

Dr. Balk was born in Columbia, MO but raised in Council Bluffs, IA. He attended undergraduate at the University of Kansas and then medical school at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton, OH. Seeking a new experience, he went on to residency at New York Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. It was during his intern year that he realized his passion for and potential of the use of Ultrasound in Emergency Medicine. He completed his fellowship in Emergency Ultrasound at NY Methodist and stayed on as both clinical and Ultrasound faculty eventually becoming the Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship Director. After almost a decade in Brooklyn, Dr. Balk returned to the midwest in 2016 to join the faculty of Truman Medical Center and is excited to help build and expand the scope of Point of Care Ultrasound to both Truman and UMKC.

In addition to his passion for Point of Care Ultrasound and teaching, he is also a diehard Jayhawks and Arsenal fan. His other interests include travel, scuba diving, and now trying to learn to play the piano on a ridiculous grand piano he acquired with his new apartment.
