FAQs

How do I get an interview?

It is necessary that your application, USMLE scores, Dean’s letter, three letters of reference, and your medical school transcript be filed via ERAS in this office before a decision regarding an interview can be made. Applicants will be notified via e-mail of decisions for interview. Interviews are generally held on Mondays during September-January and last from 8 a.m. to 3-4 p.m. Lodging and parking are provided by the program.

What happens on interview day?

Your day with us will consist of individual interviews with faculty and chief resident, as well as a tour of our facilities. You will also join several residents for lunch.

Is the program accredited?

Yes. The program has been continuously accredited since 1951.

Should I do an externship at your hospital to better my chances of matching?

The program offers elective rotations for senior medical students currently enrolled at accredited allopathic or osteopathic schools of medicine in the United States. Such an elective affords the applicant and the program an opportunity to get to know one another. The program does not offer externships.

Should I e-mail the residency coordinator to inquire about my application?

Yes

Do you accept foreign medical graduates?

All applications submitted through ERAS are considered.

Do you accept applicants who have had postgraduate training?

Yes.

Where do your residents go when they graduate?

Everywhere! Many go on to fellowships. Others join the faculty at UMKC or other universities, and some enter private practice.

What rotations do the residents do?

Please see the curriculum information.
