Meet Jane Greer
Biography
Professor Greer focuses her archival research on the rhetorical performances and literacy practices of women and girls in the United States in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and she explores how history is made public in museums and other settings. Prof. Greer is deeply committed to helping novice scholars develop their abilities as researchers, and her investigations on the impact of undergraduate research on students and their faculty mentors have been supported by a Research Initiative Grant from the Conference on College Composition and Communication. She has been involved in several multi-institutional projects that seek to discern best practices in supporting undergraduate researchers and their mentors.
Prof. Greer collaborates with the Curator of Interpretation at the National Museum of Toys and Miniatures to offer a course in which students learn to compose interpretive labels for objects and deliver museum tours on topics ranging from the the history of African-American dolls to the research processes of artists who create fine-scale miniatures.
