Biography

Dr. Bogener completed the combined 6 year BA/MD program at UMKC in 2005. After working with the orthopaedic department, he chose UMKC to complete his orthopaedic surgery residency, graduating in 2010. He then completed a foot and ankle fellowship at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, under the direction of Jim Brodsky, M.D. After fellowship, Dr. Bogener established a private practice in Salina KS and was a Clinical Assistant Professor with University of Kansas Medical Center. He returned to UMKC to assume the role of Associate Program director after becoming board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in 2013. Dr. Bogener has worked with the Diveley Resident Education Fund at St. Luke’s Hospital and Children’s Mercy Hospital to establish the Orthopaedic Surgical Skills Laboratory at UMKC. His clinical interests include advanced bunion correction, ankle arthroscopy and instability, and total ankle replacement. His academic interests are resident education and medical simulation. He lives in Parkville with his wife Megan, and their three children.
