Meet Gary Boxer
Biography

Dr. Boxer did his undergraduate work at Colorado State University. He attended medical school at the University of Colorado Medical Center graduating in 1980. Dr. Boxer did his general psychiatry residency at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He returned to the University of Colorado to complete his Clinical Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, graduating in 1985. Dr. Boxer worked for two years at the National Jewish Hospital in Denver. He and his family then moved to Manhattan, KS where he worked initially in community mental health and then in private practice for 10 years. In 1997, Dr. Boxer took a position on the faculty at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. During that time he was the Director of Consultation/Liaison with St. Louis Children’s Hospital for 2 years and was the Director of Outpatient Child and Adolescent Psychiatry for 12 years. Dr. Boxer and his wife moved to Kansas City in 2013 in order to be closer to children and grandchildren. Dr. Boxer now has a clinic with Truman Behavioral Health in Lee’s Summit where he has developed an Autism and Developmental Disabilities clinic. Dr. Boxer is active in teaching UMKC medical students and psychiatry residents. Dr. Boxer also supervises Child and Adolescent Fellows through a joint collaboration between UMKC School of Medicine and KUMC.
