The Diversity Task Force will co-sponsor a special screening of a BBC documentary on Henrietta Lacks, an African-American woman whose cancerous tumor cells were cultured more than 50 yeras ago to create cells in cancer research. The program will take place at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 29, at Diastole.
The Way of All Flesh is a film produced by Adam Curtis that focuses on the life of Lacks, whose cancerous tumor cells were cultured to create the HeLa cell line commonly used in cancer research since 1951. The film is based on the book, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.
All faculty, students andstaff are invited to attend. A panel discussion with School of Dentistry faculty and students is planned to take place following the film. Refreshments will be served.
