Alumni, faculty represent School of Medicine on Top Doctors list
|
School of Medicine alumna Emily Hillman (M.D. ’08), an associate professor of emergency medicine at the UMKC School of Medicine and emergency medicine physician at University Health Truman Medical Center, and Corey Iqbal (M.D. ’03), a pediatric general surgeon at Overland Park Regional Medical Center, have been recognized among the Kansas City region’s top physicians by Ingram’s magazine in its annual Top Doctors list. School of Medicine faculty members Jennifer Goldman, M.D., a professor of pediatrics at Children’s Mercy Kansas City specializing in pediatric infectious diseases, and Gurpreet Gandhoke, M.D., an associate professor of surgery at Saint Luke’s Hospital Kansas City who specializes in neurological surgery, were also named to this year’s Top Doctors list.

School of Medicine’s Amy Patel, M.D., is Kansas City Chiefs’ Fan of the Year

The Kansas City Chiefs are on a roll in the National Football League, and UMKC School of Medicine alumna and faculty member Amy Patel, M.D., is part of the excitement surrounding Chiefs Kingdom. Patel, a 2011 graduate and assistant professor of radiology, is celebrating the team’s success as its 2022 Fan of the Year.

Alumni join School of Medicine’s anesthesiologist assistant program faculty
|
Three UMKC School of Medicine’s Master of Science in Anesthesia program alumni have been selected for faculty leadership roles. They all have served as preceptors for many years and bring diversity in their clinical and leadership experiences, expertise and advocacy for the anesthesiologist assistant profession.

Health Sciences Campus welcomes new director of major gifts
|
Gus Sonnenberg, a 15-year fundraising veteran, has joined the UMKC Foundation as senior director of major gifts for the Health Sciences Campus. He will work specifically with the schools of Medicine, Pharmacy and Nursing and Health Studies. Sonnenberg will work with the schools’ leadership to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward those who want to make an impact on students' lives. He plans to meet with leadership, faculty and donors to understand the schools’ priorities and create a plan to move forward.

SOM Alumnus Sam Page, M.D., wins first full term as St. Louis county executive
|
St. Louis County voters elected Sam Page, M.D., a 1992 UMKC School of Medicine graduate, to his first full term as St. Louis county executive. Page, who served as a city councilman and a Missouri state legislator, was elected to the St. Louis County Council in 2014, reelected in 2016 and appointed as county executive in 2019.

Nominate one of your fellow alumni for the E. Grey Dimond, M.D., Take Wing Award. The award honors a graduate who has demonstrated excellence in their chosen field and exceeded the expectations of peers in the practice of medicine, academic medicine or research. This year's deadline has been extended to Dec. 21.
