School of Medicine faculty are invited to attend a workshop on incorporating active learning into required courses at 8:30 a.m. on June 25 in room 3301 of the Health Sciences Building.
Dr. Alison Morrison-Shetlar, dean of Elon College, the College of Arts and Sciences, and professor of biology, is a nationally recognized expert on active learning and will lead the workshop.
Her lecture on the neurobiology of learning will offer a model of active learning. Following the lecture, Morrison-Shetlar will lead participants through a series of active learning exercises to illustrate the types of active learning that can be adopted in courses, particularly those with a large number of students. Participants will also have the opportunity to present their own plans for expanding active learning in their classes during a series of roundtable discussions and receive feedback on those plans from peers and Morrison-Shetlar.
