We are happy that you stopped by to look at our program.  Students interested in Family Medicine are in high demand and are of high quality! As a Family Doctor you will be an integral part in changing the landscape of the health of our entire nation. We know you are looking for the best fit for your learning style, career goals and family work-life balance.

We believe that our program will get you to your desired destination as a family physician and leader in your community. Our residency program ranks among the highest from outside reviewers, receiving the highest praise and accolades for our breadth and comprehensiveness of training. We achieve this goal with a structured quality curriculum, diverse patient population, ability to innovate and our unopposed status at our primary teaching site-University Health Lakewood Medical Center.

The number one positive comment in the exit survey of our 2018 graduates was “The strong connection and sense of camaraderie among the residents, faculty and staff here”. We recognize residents are people with lives and families and have a focus on physician/person well-being. We are interested in highly motivated, engaged individuals who are committed to our mission to serve our underserved population. We provide broad spectrum FM training with an emphasis on self-actualization and leadership development.

University Health Lakewood Medical Center is located in a beautiful setting on the southeast corner of Kansas City. This area abuts several large suburbs and is close enough to the rural areas that our patient population is exceptionally diverse. The location lends itself to you being able to find the lifestyle setting that fits you and your family; be it- urban, suburban or rural life.

The center of our residency is the Bess Truman Family Medicine Center (FMC) where all continuity clinics are held. We are a safety net hospital and as such are a vital link to healthcare for our patients. We are an NCQA Level 3 Recognized Patient-Centered Medical Home, with over 27,000 patient visits per year. Team-based care is a core tenant to our training both in the clinic and inpatient services.

We want to inspire you to become the Family Doctor you aspire to become. To that end we offer a wide range of robust clinical experience in addition to our Outpatient training including; Inpatient Medicine, OB, Pediatrics, Geriatrics, Sports Medicine, Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy, Integrative Medicine, Population Health Management -just to name a few and we welcome your special strengths and interests.

We are passionate about Family Medicine and the overall experience and excellent training we provide here at UMKC Family Medicine. We invite you to come and share in our community! Please explore our website to form a more in depth picture of our team!
