Unfortunately the Geriatric Medicine Fellowship is no longer available and this page is now a tribute to the many fine physicians that passed through the program since 1998.
The program was a 12-month, ACGME-accredited fellowship open to board eligible or certified Family or Internal Medicine physicians. The goal was to train physicians to be expert providers of primary care in Geriatric Medicine. Participants had a sincere desire to provide care to the frail and elderly. Jon Dedon, MD (retired), board certified in Geriatric and Internal Medicine, oversaw the creation of the program and led it until he retired in 2023. He was assisted by Steve Griffith, MD (retired) as faculty and had his Certificate of Added Qualifications in Geriatric Medicine. Dr. Griffith also retired in 2023.
The program offered learning opportunities in:
- Clinical mentoring by Family Physicians with additional qualifications in Geriatric Medicine and considerable experience: biweekly Geriatric Continuity Clinic; Geriatric Assessment Consultation Clinic for our large medical practice.
- Academic Faculty Development: help coordinate the physician education and care of our hospice patients; present morbidity and mortality reviews; coordinate Geriatric Medicine Journal Club.
- Dedicated time weekly for work related to track: didactic, clinical, presentations and chart review.
- CME conferences in Geriatric Medicine: good for networking and academic learning.
We celebrate the physicians that served as faculty and those that graduated from this program and left to serve their communities with their skills and knowledge acquired from their participation in the fellowship.
