Hickman to chair national meeting on Prevention Teaching and Research

Timothy Hickman, M.D. ’80, M.Ed., M.P.H., associate teaching professor in the Department of Biomedical and Health Informatics, has been selected to serve as program chair for the 2017 Association for Prevention Teaching and Research national meeting.

He was elected to the board of directors of the national association last March. The organization of medical and health profession institutions and faculty promotes prevention and population health education and research.

Hickman served on the planning committee for the 2016 national meeting, where he presented a workshop on teaching social justice and a poster on promoting community health literacy. He also facilitated round table and panel discussions.

Previously, Hickman served on the steering committee for the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City Health Literacy Initiative. He also received a Health Literacy Missouri Trailblazer Finalist Award in 2015 at the Sixth Annual Health Literacy Missouri Tribute Awards and Summit.

The 2017 national meeting is slated for April 5-7 in Savannah, Georgia.
