A Lactation Room for nursing mothers has been created on the first floor of the Health Sciences Building to serve the Hospital Hill campus. The project was part of a cooperative effort between the UMKC Campus Facilities Management and the School of Nursing Dean’s Office.
A student campaign from the School of Nursing initiated the project, but Robert Simmons, associate vice chancellor – administration, said requests for a lactation room “come up regularly on both campuses.” A similar facility is located in the Women’s Center on UMKC’s Volker Campus.
The Lactation Room on the Hospital Hill campus is located in Room 1305 of the Health Sciences Building. The area is approximately 50 square feet and will be outfitted with a comfortable chair, small refrigerator, a privacy lock and a room number on the door. No other signage is planned to indicate the area as a Lactation Room.
