Magavi chosen to regional post with psychiatry interest group

Leela Magavi, MS 6, was elected regional chair for the national psychiatry interest group, PsychSIGN, during the national American Pyschiatric Association meeting in Honolulu, Hawaii, this past May.

Magavi serves as president of the UMKC chapter of PsychSIGN. As regional chair, Magavi will be involved in planning next year’s national PsychSIGN meeting by participating in bimonthly conference calls. The American Psychiatric Association will fund her attendance at next year’s national meeting.

PsychSIGN is a nationwide network of medical students interested in psychiatry who work to foster the involvement, organization and implementation of other student psychiatry interest groups at individual medical schools throughout North America. The group is a central hub for the exchange of ideas, information and resources for student coalitions in psychiatry and promotes the education and advocacy of mental health as an integral part of overall health.
