Welcome to the UMKC School of Medicine – St. Joseph. As UMKC School of Medicine’s newest campus, our mission is to train superlative physicians to help rural Missouri address its critical need for health care providers. Our commitment to this mission has been recognized by US News and World Report in its ranking of UMKC School of Medicine among the best in rural health care education among all of the nation’s medical schools. This best-in-class award is resounding evidence of our sustained and disciplined commitment to excellence in everything we do for our students and our patients.
While our focus is rural medicine, we are a full, four-year medical school with a comprehensive curriculum. When a UMKC School of Medicine – St. Joseph student develops a passion for any aspect of medicine, research, leadership, the arts, bioethics, global health or advocacy, we pair that student with a faculty member specialized in that field and ready to provide one-on-one mentorship. This means we can craft a career pathway that is just right for each and every one of our students.
The UMKC School of Medicine – St. Joseph Campus is located inside Mosaic Life Care, where students are learning just steps away from the patients. Mosaic Life Care is an award-winning, nationally recognized 352 bed tertiary-care hospital, averaging 50,000 emergency room visits, 2,000 newborn deliveries and 400 open heart surgeries each year. Its medical staff is made up of subspecialty providers who support one of the largest rural primary care networks in the nation. Mosaic is a proud member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network, so students have the opportunity to learn from the very best.
Our campus provides state-of-the-art personalized student spaces, classrooms, simulation labs and active learning environments that ensure students will graduate with the specialized skills and training needed to be well-prepared practitioners and effective leaders in rural health care. Whether a lecture is presented in-person at the St. Joseph campus or through a live remote from the Kansas City campus, the Mayo Clinic Care Network or anywhere in the world, the UMKC School of Medicine – St. Joseph provides everything needed to become a great physician.
