Medical journal highlights School of Medicine education, research efforts

The latest edition of the journal of the Missouri State Medical Association, Missouri Medicine, focused on the UMKC School of Medicine’s 40-year history of medical education and highlighted several of the School’s ongoing research efforts.

Two articles written by School of Medicine Dean Betty Drees, M.D., looked at the story of the School and the success of its six-year curriculum and explored the need for and growth of accelerated medical education programs throughout the United States.

The September/October issue of Missouri Medicine also included a guest editorial by Gerald Early, M.D., associate professor of surgery, and Charles Van Way, III, M.D., professor and Sosland/Missouri Endowed Chair of Trauma Services, on the advances of critical care medicine.

Six research abstracts published in the current issue were also written or co-written by School of Medicine faculty and residents.
