Match Day- TMC/UMKC Neurology Residency
Despite the chaos created by COVID-19, 3/20/2020 (Match Day) marks another positive milestone in the history of the TMC/UMKC Department of Neurology. In context, as recently as 2013, there was not one full-time neurologist at TMC/ UMKC School of Medicine. After an extremely successful match, we now have a full complement of 12 neurology residents and five full-time, board-certified neurologists.
The faculty include those sub specialty trained in neuromuscular disease, epilepsy, electrodiagnostic medicine,neuro-ophthalmology, neuroimaging and neuro-otology. We also have a dedicated staff of nurse practitioners, nurses, nursing assistants, EEG/EMG technicians, managers and administrative staff.
Indeed these are upsetting days but they will pass. From our vantage point the future for TMC/UMKC neurology is very bright and the cornerstone of our confidence is the neurology residency program which continues to grow not only numerically but also in quality and stature. Our best days are ahead of us.

Welcome to the UMKC Neurology Residency Program website. Our program received initial accreditation from the ACGME in early 2017, and successfully participated in the Match for the first time in 2018. We are a young program, and growing stronger by the day.
The new UMKC Neurology Residency Program is a categorical program that was structured to achieve our goal of producing neurologists who display excellence in patient care, education, and research. Our affiliated hospitals—Saint Luke’s Hospital, Truman Medical Center, Research Medical Center, and Children’s Mercy Hospital—provide a balanced exposure to the breadth of neurological diseases. Our didactic and research programs take advantage of the many resources available through UMKC and our affiliated institutions to ensure that graduates have the knowledge and skills necessary to practice neurology in any setting.
Thank you for your interest in our program. I encourage you to explore this website to learn more about all that our program has to offer.
