Nominations are currently open for the annual Award for Excellence in Diversity and Health Equity in Medicine. Awards will be given in two categories: student or student organization, and faculty, staff, resident and or organization/department. All full and part-time School of Medicine faculty, staff, residents, departments, units and organizations are eligible.

The Office of Diversity and Community Partnership is seeking nominees who have made consistent contributions in recruiting or retaining a diverse student or faculty body, facilitating an inclusive environment of success for all, working to promote health health equity and eliminate health disparities, and strengthening efforts to develop or implement cultural competency strategies that improve health care delivery.

The deadline for nominations is Nov. 15. Nomination materials can be found on the Office of Diversity and Partnership website at https://med.umkc.edu/odcp/award-excellence.shtml. Winners will be announced in December and recognized at the 2014 Faculty Dinner.

Clinicas Hispana de Cuidados de Salud (CHICOS), a Children’s Mercy Hospitals program meeting the needs of the Spanish-speaking community, received the first Award for Excellence in Diversity and Health Equity in Medicine last January.
