Wellness is very important to us. We know that residency is one of the most stressful and demanding periods of your medical training. We strive to provide our residents with a healthy work-life balance with a common goal of optimizing the learning and working environment. One of our program’s greatest strengths is a “family feel” it provides. Through major life events, such as marriage, childbirth and family emergencies, the program is committed to supporting each resident in the best possible way. Our residents take regular wellness and well-being surveys. Protected time is set aside for lunch in order the residents to unwind and step away from duties. Both the University Health campus, and the UMKC School of Medicine campus, offer multiple amenities such as a physician lounge, fitness facilities, lactation room and spaces for spiritual practices. Access is also available to mental health resources. During the academic year our residents are encouraged to participate in social gatherings including breakfast and dinners with faculty, holiday related activities and resident retreats. Through our mentorship program, our faculty is always available for residents to share insight into their time in residency and provide assistance and support by addressing any challenges that may arise. three people drawing wall art
