The School of Medicine has planned a series of events to continue its 40th Anniversary Celebration that include an Art of Medicine Exhibit and Reception in February and the Grand Finale Celebration in April at the new Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.
The Art of Medicine Exhibit and Reception kicks off the series from 4-7 p.m. on Feb. 23 at Hyde Park Gallery, 3257 Gillham Plaza. The reception for School of Medicine affiliates, faculty and staff is in appreciation of the partnerships with the School of Medicine. Affiliates are helping with the event by supplying photographs of buildings, milestone events, faculty, staff, and students. These photos will be assembled as a slide show at the event.
A two-day extravaganza is planned for April 27 and 28. A legacy class reunion, all class reunion and Hornstra Society reunion are all planned for 6 p.m. on April 27 at the Westin Crown Center Pershing Ballroom. The Grand Finale Celebration at the Kauffman Center for Performing Arts on April 28 includes a reception from 5-7 p.m. at the Brandmeyer Great Hall, followed at 7:30 by a performance of Chen Yi’s Chinese Myths by the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance in the Helzberg Hall.
On April 26, School of Medicine alumni Catherine Spong, M.D., 91, and Alexander Norbash, M.D., ’86, will be recognized during a luncheon at the Westin Crown Center. Spong is the recipient of the 2012 UMKC Alumna of the Year Award, and Norbash is the School of Medicine’s Alumni Achievement Award winner.
Other School of Medicine alumni and notable local and national speakers will present lectures on April 27 and April 28 at the School of Medicine as part of the anniversary celebration.
