Four UMKC School of Medicine and Saint Luke’s Health System cardiologists have joined an elite team of physicians in the country who have received board certification in the subspecialty of Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology from the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Anthony Magalski, M.D., professor of medicine and medical director of the heart failure program at Saint Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute, Bethany Austin, M.D., clinical assistant professor of medicine, Andrew Kao, M.D., associate professor of medicine, and Taiyeb Khumri, M.D., assistant professor of medicine, earned the certification that recognizes cardiologists with the special knowledge and skills necessary to evaluate and optimally manage patients who suffer heart failure.
Magalski said the rigorous certification process shows that a cardiologist has a high level of training and clinical experience with patients who have gone through heart failure. “Then you have sit for a board exam to prove it,” he said.
