
The School of Medicine is pleased to announce that Sara Gardner, M.D., ’02, assistant professor of medicine and pediatrics and a Years 1 and 2 docent, has been selected as the new chair of the School’s Council on Evaluation.
The Evaluation Council develops and applies the policies and procedures to assess the academic and professional development of students as they progress through the School of Medicine.
Gardner will take on the new role as chair at the council’s March 2011 meeting.
Gardner has served on the School of Medicine faculty since 2007, when she also became a member of the Council on Evaluation. She also leads docent rotation lectures on epilepsy and renal structure and function, and has been a Years 1 and 2 core pediatrics lecturer.
She has served as director of the School’s Internal Medicine/Pediatrics residency program since 2009 and was associate program director from 2007-2009. She has also been active in curriculum development.
After receiving her medical degree, Gardner completed her residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at the UMKC School of Medicine. She served as chief resident in 2005-2006. She also served at Children’s Mercy on the medical student education committee, was co-chair of the transitional medicine committee, and currently is a member of the faculty advisory committee.
