A School of Medicine alumnus and a staff member have each been selected as 2015 recipients of the UMKC Pride Award.

The award acknowledges members of the UMKC community for their contribution to the university’s LGBTQIA community through education, support, programming, or activism and to recognize their service and outreach in establishing a safer and more welcoming environment at UMKC.

Raymond Cattaneo, M.D. ’03, MPH, FAAP, assistant dean for years 1 & 2 medicine, was selected the Outstanding Alumni recipient. Cattaneo has served as president of the School of Medicine Alumni Association and on July 1 will become the first School of Medicine graduate to take on the role as president of the UMKC Alumni Association.

Cassie Shaffer Johnson, education team coordinator for the Gold Docent Unit, was selected as this year’s Outstanding Faculty/Staff recipient. Shaffer Johnson joined the School of Medicine in 2012.

Cattaneo and Shaffer Johnson were recognized at the 2015 Lavender Graduate Recognition and Pride Awards Banquet on May 13 at the UMKC Student Union.
