The University of Missouri-Kansas City will honor two School of Medicine faculty members for their academic contributions at 3 p.m. on March 12 at the 2012 Faculty and Staff Awards Ceremony on the Volker Campus.
Stuart Munro, M.D., professor and chair of psychiatry, and John Q. Wang, M.D., Ph.D., professor of anesthesiology and Westport Anesthesia/Missouri Endowed Chair in Anesthesia Research, are among those who will be recognized at the Celebrating Excellence event at the Student Union Multi-Purpose Room.
Munro will receive the Elmer F. Pierson Good Teaching Award that is presented to faculty in the Bloch School and the Schools of Dentistry, Law and Medicine for outstanding teaching based on student evaluations of courses.
The University will present Wang with the 2012 UMKC Trustees Faculty Fellowship Award, which honors a sustained nationally and internationally recognized record of research and scholarly achievements at UMKC.
Celebrating Excellence awards recognize those who have achieved excellence in the areas of research and creative activity, teaching, student mentoring, service and engagement. Awards are presented at the annual spring faculty and staff recognition program.
