The Sleep Medicine Fellowship is a one-year fellowship within the Internal Medicine Department though it encompasses a broad range of disciplines (adult and pediatric medicine, psychiatry, neurology, and surgery), as it encompasses most aspects of human physiology and disease. Sleep Medicine requires a basic understanding of sleep/wake mechanisms and the myriad ways they are impacted by illness, lifestyle, genetics, and environment, etc. This fellowship provides a strong clinical base in which to study, as well as opportunities to manage care and pursue research. It includes one month rotations in general sleep medicine with exposure to both adult and pediatric in and out patients, adult and pediatric ENT, neurology, adult and/or pediatric psychiatry, research and electives. If the fellow’s primary specialty is not Internal Medicine, the rotation schedule will be adjusted appropriately. Research is an integral part of the training program with each fellow completing and submitting at least one abstract to a peer reviewed journal and/or national meeting by the end of the fellowship training period.
