Biography
Dr. Elder was born and raised in the Kansas City area. He graduated from Kearney High School in Kearney, MO and attended the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Medicine 6-year combined B.A./M.D. program. After this, he completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Truman Medical Center/University of Missouri Kansas City and graduated in 2017. He served as one of the chief residents in his final year of training.
After residency, he and his wife moved to Baltimore as his wife started a Hematology/Oncology fellowship with the University of Maryland School of Medicine. During this time, Dr. Elder worked as an assistant professor in the Emergency Department at the University of Maryland affiliated hospital Mercy Medical Center in downtown Baltimore. After his wife completed her training, they relocated back to Kansas City and Dr. Elder joined the Truman Medical Center / University of Missouri Kansas City School of Medicine Emergency Medicine Residency program as full time faculty as a nocturnist; starting August 2020.
Dr. Elder’s areas of interest are in wilderness and austere medicine, critical care, airway management, and bedside graduate medical education. He has completed the Wilderness Medical Society FAWM program and currently serves as the Medical Director of Clinical Competency and Assessment for the UMKC School of Medicine. In his free time, he enjoys spending time doing anything and everything outdoors with his wife, Simran, children, Rohan and Reya, and his German Shepherds Oswald and Raksha.
