Biography
Dr. Ryan W. Swope is an orthopaedic surgeon and is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
He earned his medical degree at A.T. Still University and completed a residency at University of Missouri, Columbia followed by a fellowship at University of Pittsburg Medical Center.
As a former Orthopedic Trauma Surgeon with the United States Air Force, he served for 13 years of active service followed by 4 years in the TN ANG. He continues to serve with the 131st at Whiteman AFB as part of the MO Air National Guard. He served overseas in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and Iraq multiple times between 2011 and 2018. He also served on the Presidential Mobile Field Surgical Trauma team for President Obama in Alaska in 2014.
Dr. Swope joined University Health at Truman and Lakewood Medical Centers in 2021.
Dr. Swope specializes in hip and knee replacement and revision hip and knee reconstruction surgery. He utilizes the direct anterior approach for hip replacement. Additionally, he uses robotic assistance for partial and total knee replacement and is pioneering the robotic program here at University Health. He has developed and implemented same-day discharge and rapid recovery protocols following total joint replacement. He is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
