Applications
Applications must be received by October 31 so that their composite score will reflect their application and provide the best chance to obtain an interview. We would like to give invitees as much time as possible to obtain the lowest airfares. Invitations will be sent by e-mail and reservations given for specific interview days on a first-come/first-serve basis. Please make sure you can attend on the day you request. Invitations to interview will not be extended to candidates who do not meet the academic qualifications of this program. The orthopaedic surgery match is very competitive and we expect our interview slots to fill the same day invitations are sent out.
Interviews
The interview provides the prospective resident an opportunity to see the program, talk with the residents and decide if this program is a good personal match. Each interviewee will be provided complete information about the program, teaching and faculty/resident interactions. We believe that this process allows the applicant to “self-select” and therefore results in matching candidates who work very well as a group.
Interviews are scheduled for December 11, 2019, January 9, 2020 and January 15, 2020. On these dates, Grand Rounds start at 7:30 a.m. and continue to 9:30 a.m. Grand Rounds are held at the School of Medicine. This provides the candidate an opportunity to observe the program’s teaching style and meet with all the residents, some of the faculty, and some of the affiliated staff. There will then be a short introduction by Residency Program Director Dr. James Bogener, followed by 10-minute interviews with several faculty members and senior residents. All candidates will have interviews with the same faculty members, regardless of the particular day they select to interview. The candidates will then have lunch with the residents and be given a tour of the facilities. It would be anticipated that the candidates could be able to leave for the airport by 2:00 p.m. The airport is a 25-minute, approximate $35 cab ride from the hospital. Most of the nearby hotels offer a shuttle service for about $15-20.
An informal gathering will be scheduled on the evening prior to your interview date. This provides an opportunity to interact with the residents and query them about the program. Attendance is optional for the applicant. Dress is casual (jeans are fine.) You will be notified of time and place.
Accomodations
All costs related to the interview will be the responsibility of the applicant.
