Curriculum

Enhance your research skills with curriculum offering five optional emphasis areas: clinical research, computational bioinformatics, genomic bioinformatics, individualized informatics and epidemiology and biostatistics. Students choosing to complete the degree without an emphasis or those opting for clinical research or computational bioinformatics, can pursue either a master's thesis or capstone project, while those in the Genomics emphasis must develop a master's thesis.

Research

Research is at the core of what we do. The Biomedical and Health Informatics Department offers a research and consulting service to promote high-quality research and offer researcher consultation. Our department also has faculty and staff who have united with other researchers from the University of Missouri to leverage public-private partnerships to provide informatics expertise and capabilities to researchers at the UM System campuses through the NextGen Data Science and Analytics Innovation Center.

What Our Alumni Say

I chose UMKC for the flexibility to move at my own pace, small in person classes, ability to work on projects I was interested in, and knowledge able faculty that were willing to help me solve problems.

Grayson Twist, '14

I love research, and I think I’ll always work in research. The appeal of the clinical track of the bioinformatics program for me was the well- rounded research coursework (stats, epi, informatics). This coursework has prepared me to work in a higher capacity with research than I do now and do more analysis and study development.
