The Founding Dean’s Fund
The new Founding Dean’s Fund, created in honor of UMKC School of Medicine’s first dean, Richardson K. Noback, M.D., directly benefits students at the School of Medicine.
Each year, the current dean of the school collaborates with student leadership to identify student needs. The School of Medicine Alumni Board then selects at least one student needs to support. Needs include student research, travel funding, test preparation materials and much more.
Rewards of Giving
Donors who give $2,500 or more in a fiscal year to this fund become members of The Noback Society.
Benefits include:
- Name recognition in digital and print materials
- Exclusive “State of the School” meetings with the dean of the School of Medicine

Who was Dean Noback?
Richardson K. Noback, M.D. served as a consultant assisting Kansas City General Hospital and the University of Missouri-Columbia in developing a health sciences center on Hospital Hill in the 1960s. In 1971, before UMKC School of Medicine opened, he was selected to be acting dean, and then was officially named dean of the brand new school. It was a role he served in until 1978.
