White Coat Ceremony
About the Event
The School of Medicine conducted its first White Coat Ceremony in 2003. The program is sponsored by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation and emphasizes the importance of providing compassionate, quality medical care.
For M.D. and Physician Assistant students, the ceremony marks their transition from primarily classwork-based training to their final years of intensive clinical training, and is a major milestone on their journey to becoming practicing physicians.
Three Ceremonies. Two Campuses
Since 2021, the UMKC School of Medicine has hosted two White Coat Ceremonies for M.D. students — one for students studying at the school's main Kansas City campus, and the other for students in UMKC's rural medicine program in St. Joseph, Mo.
Since 2015, Physician Assistant (PA) students have participated in their own White Coat Ceremony, which also takes place in Kansas City campus where the program is based.
