Biography
Dr. Gibson was appointed Vice Chair for the Department of Community and Family Medicine 2023. The same year, she received the designation of Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. In 2021, Dr. Gibson was awarded the designation of Fellow of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (FAMSSM). Dr. Gibson works in the Dean’s Office at the UMKC School of Medicine directing faculty development. Dr. Gibson also serves as the Program Director of the UMKC Sports Medicine Fellowship
Dr Gibson has experience treating musculoskeletal conditions and medical conditions in athletes and individuals that are active. She works with amateur to elite athletes. She serves as the Medical Director for the Kansas City Marathon and the Hospital Hill Run and a team physician for Kansas City Athletics programs. In addition to treating patients in KC, she also travels internationally as an USA Volleyball Physician and a member of the US Ski and Snowboard Physician pool. She was the team physician for the KC Current from 2021-2023 and is still active with the medical task force for the National Women’s Soccer League. She is a team physician for Sporting (MLS). She has served on many committees for University Health and the UMKC School of Medicine. She is active in the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine through the education and fellowship committees. She edits the Best Practice in Sports Medicine textbook.
Dr. Gibson enjoys outdoor activities, traveling, watching sports (especially the UMKC Kangaroos) and spending time with her family.
