Biography

Dr. Isom was born and raised in Missouri, growing up in Columbia and graduating from Columbia Hickman High School. She attended undergraduate and medical school at the University of Missouri-Kansas City graduating from their combined B.A./M.D. program. She completed her residency in Emergency Medicine at Truman Medical Center/University of Missouri-Kansas City. After residency, she worked at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, followed by St. John’s Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. She later moved east to Augusta, Georgia, where she was an assistant professor at the Medical College of Georgia, as well as Medical Director for the Emergency Department at St. Joseph Hospital in Augusta, and Medical Director for the Emergency Department at Wills Memorial Hospital, in Washington, Georgia.

In 2006, Dr. Isom returned home to Missouri to join the faculty in the Emergency Department at Truman Medical Center/University of Missouri-Kansas City. In addition to working clinically in the Emergency Department, she serves as Medical Director for the Sexual Assault Nurse Exam (SANE) program at Truman Medical Center as well as the Medical Director for COVERSA, who provides SANE exams to Emergency Departments at multiple hospitals in the Kansas City metro area.

Dr. Isom is married and has four sons to keep her busy. When she has spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling the world, watching KC Chiefs football, and playing poker.
