Biography
Dr. Shaw’s medical training started at the Sanford School of Medicine of USD where he attended medical school. He then completed one year of General Surgery training at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE. He completed is residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Missouri-KC after which he completed a Fellowship in Sports Medicine at the Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Clinic of Kansas City/UMKC program. Finally, he completed further fellowship training in Hip Arthroscopy and Preservation Surgery/Sports Medicine at University Hospitals Case Medical Center, in Cleveland OH. During his two fellowships, he spent time with both the Kansas City Chiefs, under Dr. Cris Barnthouse, and the Cleveland Browns, under Dr. James Voos.
His practice includes operative and non-operative care of all types of sports injuries including hip, knee, shoulder/elbow, and foot/ankle related sports injuries. He is specially trained in hip surgery and knee ligament reconstruction with minimally invasive and arthroscopic techniques. Dr. Shaw’s particular clinical interests include injuries of the ACL, knee and hip articular cartilage, and the meniscus and ligaments of the knee. He also specializes in hip labral injuries and preservation surgery of the hip, using advanced arthroscopic techniques, and is the only member of the International Society of Hip Arthroscopy in the Kansas City area. Dr. Shaw has a dedicated interest in the education of future orthopaedic surgeons and students at all levels of education. He has co-authored multiple textbook chapters that are used by national and international orthopaedic peers and residency programs for orthopaedic education. Dr. Shaw became board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in 2017.
