Council for Inclusive Excellence

The University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine (UMKC SoM) Council for Inclusive Excellence strives to create a comprehensive and inclusive learning, clinical, research, and working environment for the SoM community by promoting healthcare for all, inclusion, and respect through education, training, and other resources.
Vision and Values
The SoM believes that a vibrant and inclusive institutional climate is essential to providing medical education that promotes the effective delivery of healthcare in all communities. The School embraces a broad definition of inclusion that welcomes, considers and addresses the healthcare needs of all demographics and populations, who can contribute to the process of medical education through their various personal experiences such as overcoming hardship, demonstrating extensive involvement within the community, possessing multicultural abilities, and /or exhibiting a full range of life experiences that contribute to achieving inclusive excellence.Meeting Time
The Council meets on the third Thursday of each month.

Council Makeup
The Council consists of elected and appointed staff and faculty members representing the different academic units at UMKC SoM. In addition to faculty and staff, student representatives also serve on the Council. There are four elected medical student representatives (one from years 1-2 and two from rising years 3-6 at the Health Sciences District (HSD) campus, one from year 1-4 students at the St. Joseph campus) serving on the council for a one-year term. Student members from several student-led organizations will elect a representative from their respective organization to serve in an ex-officio capacity on the Council.
