About
The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine has been providing simulation-based education to health professions students, residents in training and faculty for more than 12 years. The School of Medicine is known for delivering an innovative curriculum, with early patient-care experiences in an accelerated format. As such, it is no surprise that simulation education has been a cornerstone of our educational programs. Established in 2007, the Clinical Training Facility (CTF) and Youngblood Medical Skills Laboratory (YMSL) is the primary site for simulation education for School of Medicine students. The simulation center provides simulation experiences for UMKC School of Medicine students, residents, faculty, and affiliated programs. It also houses the School of Medicine’s robust Standardized Patient (SP) program which serves all UMKC health professions programs as well as several local hospitals and universities.
Vision, Mission, Values
Vision
The UMKC Clinical Training Facility will be a leader in simulation-based health professions innovation, collaboration, education, and educational research for the University of Missouri-Kansas City, local community, and within the region.
Mission
The mission of the UMKC School of Medicine Clinical Training Facility (CTF) is to provide innovative, educational simulation programs and opportunities based on sound methodologies to support the education of trainees, healthcare providers and serve the surrounding community. The CTF will serve as a vital adjunct to healthcare education by encouraging hands-on, situational learning in a supportive and formative environment, developing individual and team-based competencies, and fostering interprofessional collaboration.
