Applying for Admission

The Biomedical and Health Informatics Department features an open-enrollment policy, allowing applicants to submit their application at any time.

Applicants must submit their application and supporting documents by certain deadlines to be accepted into the program. Applications submitted after the deadline will be reviewed on a space-available basis.

Deadlines

Applicants must submit the applications and supporting documentation by Aug. 1st for Fall Semester or Jan. 1st for Spring Semester.

International applicants must submit documentation by June 1st for Fall Semester or Jan. 1st for Spring Semester to allow the International Student Affairs Office time to process your application.

Students interested in the Graduate Certificate in Clinical Research Program must submit the following:

All applicants must complete the UMKC General Application for Admission.

Official College/University Transcripts

All applicants must submit their official college/university transcripts to the University. Transcripts must be sent to:

Official TOEFL or IELTS Scores (if applicable)

International applicants are required to submit their TOEFL or IELTS scores if their native language is not English

  • TOEFL: A minimum score of 79 on the internet-based exam is required
  • IELTS: A minimum score of 6.0 is required

TOEFL scores should be submitted electronically by identifying UMKC as a score recipient. The UMKC

TOEFL code is also 6872.

Duolingo scores are not accepted.

Goal Statement (One Page)

All applicants must submit a one-page goal statement explaining their interest in the Master of Science in Bioinformatics.

Two Letters of Recommendation

At least two letters of recommendation must be submitted along with the rest of the required material.

Letters of recommendation must come from individuals such as professors, advisors, administrators, or employers who can speak to your academic ability and other personal characteristics. Family members and/or friends of the family are not accepted.

Resume/CV

All applicants must submit their current CV or resume. The document should include their current address, employment history, and prior education.

Physicians currently in a residency / fellowship program are only required to submit one letter of recommendation, instead of two. The letter of recommendation must come from their program director. Additionally, they must also include a photo of their medical license. No TOEFL or IELTS scores are required.

Applicants must complete the UMKC General Application for Admission.

International applicants should review information from the International Student Affairs Office prior to submitting their application.

The following materials will also be submitted along with the general application:

  • Goal Statement
  • Letters of Recommendation
  • Resume / CV

Application Review

Once submitted, your application will be reviewed by our team. You will be notified once there is an update to your application.

If you are an international applicant, please contact the International Student Affairs Office. They will review your application prior to forwarding your materials to our team.

Verdict

You will receive an email notifying you that there has been an update to your application. Please follow the link to see the results. If you are accepted into the program, please scroll down to the bottom of the page where it will ask if you wish to join the program.

If you accept the invitation, you will receive a few emails from the University that will include your student ID, student email address, assigned academic advisor etc.
