Wellness Program
UMKC School of Medicine knows that wellness is a key part of student success. In addition to a dedicated staff member overseeing wellness initiatives and topics, UMKC also offers mental health and counseling services to students.
Medical school is a stressful time for many students and not just due to the heavy amount of content learned and the fast paced-environment. It also includes transitions to a new city, a new community, and a developing view of each student's professional identity. On top of that, medical students train in a variety of settings and encounter topics that can be emotionally impactful such as patient illness, lack of resources and even death. It is important that medical students take care of themselves and each other, both inside and outside of the educational setting. Our wellness coordinator, the resources provided online, and our free or low-cost medical services, including psychological and psychiatric services, can all help students thrive as medical students.
