Longitudinal, Ongoing Mentoring Programs

The Office of Professional Development offers three ongoing, longitudinal mentoring programs for faculty at different stages of their careers. 

Programs Offered

  • Early Career Mentoring Program — for junior faculty (assistant professors)
  • Mid-Career Mentoring Program for mid-career fauclty (associate professors and professors with three or fewer years in their current role)
  • Longevity Career Mentoring Program — for later-career faculty (professors with four or more years in their current role)

Program Objectives

These mentoring programs are designed for faculty members who wish to develop their skills, progress professionally toward promotion, pursue leadership opportunities, or in the case of later-career professors, transition their current roles. 

Mentors and mentees do not need to be from the same department, division, section or affiliate; rather the focus is on pairing people who share similar academic goals.

  • List longitudinal mentoring program as a component of faculty development for promotion.
  • Become eligible for the annual Faculty Professional Development monetary award by meeting with your mentor during the academic year with goal of supporting your scholarly pursuits.

Requirements

  • Must be a faculty member at the rank required for the program you're interested in
  • Must complete the online application by the application deadline

Program components

  • Scheduled formal mentoring sessions with a trained mentor to review progress, provide advice and suggest resources for continued career development; setting SMART goals and reviewing School of Medicine levels of intensity for scholarly activity (teaching, service, clinical practice and research) to ensure goals align with promotion and career fulfillment.
  • Opportunities available from the Office of Professional Development to gain knowledge and enhance skills that will be useful for career progression, fulfillment and promotion

Applying to the program

Interested faculty members must complete a brief online application and upload their current CVThe application allows you to pair with a mentor based on shared interests and goals. Your interests and goals will be shared with your mentor. 

The application period is open for a limited time during the academic year and will be announced on faculty listserv.

The ability to accommodate mentees may be limited due to the number of trained mentors available during each academic year. Early applications are advised.
