Goal and Objectives
The goal of the Sarah Morrison Award is to help students learn the value and application of research in the study and practice of medicine by providing funds to support the expenses of such research. Students may be involved in and learn about a wide variety of research activities based on their interests. It may be in the basic sciences or in clinical medicine. Students may develop their own hypothesis and work plan, or work on an established research project with their mentor.
Student proposals approved by the review committee may result in an award of up to $3,000 under the control of the student’s research mentor. The funds will be used for expenses related to the project.
The application deadline is Nov. 15 at noon.
Presenting Research
Students shall present the results of their research at a School of Medicine student research event (i.e., the UMKC Health Sciences Student Research Summit) or similar venue as recommended by the Office of Research Administration.
Complying with Requirements
Receipt of a Sarah Morrison Student Research Award does not guarantee the research project may be conducted or started. The project must comply with all institutional requirements, including determinations and decisions by university compliance committees, such as the Institutional Review Board, Radiation Safety Committee, Privacy Board, etc. It must also comply with university and hospital affiliate research policies and other requirements set by the School of Medicine and hospital affiliates, especially in regard to patient privacy or patient activities.
Reporting Progress
Student awardees are expected to report on the progress of their research. Fill out and submit the Progress Report form to SomResearch@umkc.edu.
