LCME Accreditation

In October 2018, the UMKC School of Medicine received formal notification from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) that it had been granted full accreditation for eight years, with the next site visit planned for the 2025-26 academic year.

Continuous accreditation from the LCME, the national authority for M.D. programs in the U.S. and Canada, is vital for our medical school and university. It confirms that our medical education programs meet established standards and serves two main purposes: promoting institutional self-assessment and ensuring compliance with set standards. Preparation for the 2018 site visit began in April 2016 and lasted over two years, involving full-time and affiliate faculty, medical students, residents and staff. This process allowed for a comprehensive review of the school’s operations, leading to numerous enhancements that improved the learning environment for medical students and strengthened the school overall.

The next LCME accreditation site review will occur in April 2026, and preparation is currently underway.
