About

Welcome

Welcome to the Department of Radiology at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). Our department includes more than 50 faculty members that together perform more than 500,000 exams annually. Every facet of imaging is performed at the four affiliated institutions that comprise our department, including Children’s Mercy Hospital, the largest pediatric facility in the Midwest; University Health Truman Medical Center, Missouri’s largest level 1 trauma center; the Kansas City Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and Saint Luke’s Hospital, a major tertiary referral center with some of the nation’s largest cardiac and neuroimaging volumes, as well as transplant services and a cancer institute. The Department of Radiology at UMKC offers outstanding patient care through diagnostic and interventional services while maintaining a robust academic environment through research and medical education.

The University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine Department of Radiology addresses the imaging training and needs of Missouri through training future radiological providers; teaching radiological imaging to students, residents and fellows; as well as engaging in research and scholarly activity at the highest possible level.

Vision

The Department of Radiology is the preferred training site in radiological imaging for graduates of medical schools in Missouri and the surrounding region. Our training and research programs are innovative, evidence-based and collaborative with the UMKC School of Medicine, industry and a diversity of affiliated institutions and academic departments.

Philosophy

Department of Radiology trainees, including medical students, radiology residents and fellows will understand the utility and risks of all subspecialty imaging modalities. Each trainee will achieve a level of knowledge that will allow a commitment to life-long learning. Residency and fellowship graduates will be prepared to join private and academic practices working in various imaging subspecialty areas. Trainees, students and faculty will act as an integral part of the clinical team to promote transparency, quality improvement and the highest level patient care.
