Director's Welcome
From the Program Director
Thank you so much for your interest in our Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship at the University of Missouri – Kansas City. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to begin my tenure as the Program Director this academic year.
Our fellowship is clinically focused and highly values a balance between fellow autonomy and guided learning. You will have the opportunity to work at two very different hospital systems.
University Health – Truman Medical Center is a mid-sized inner-city hospital that is a safety net hospital for the Kansas City metro area. You will see diverse patient groups and a wide range of pathologies. Our intensive care unit is busy and high acuity. We pride ourselves on taking care of the sickest and most vulnerable patients in the community. We have the consultants, nursing, ancillary staff, and resources to provide comprehensive care to any critically ill patient. On the pulmonary side, we give fellows exposure to subspecialty clinics including interstitial lung disease, pulmonary nodules/lung cancer, pulmonary hypertension, and asthma in addition to a robust general pulmonary clinic population. The pulmonary consult rotation provides education on complex pulmonary pathologies and training in both basic and advanced pulmonary procedures.
Our second institution, Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City, is a large quaternary referral center that gives fellows educational experiences in all aspects of medical critical care including neurologic/neurosurgical critical care, ECMO, cardiothoracic surgery ICU patients, and many more. On the pulmonary side, fellows work with highly dedicated faculty providing general and subspecialty pulmonary care in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Additionally, there are multiple interventional pulmonology trained physicians performing and teaching advanced pulmonary procedures.
You will find our program is exceptionally dedicated to fellow education, wellness, and autonomy. We value camaraderie within our fellows and our faculty. We are very responsive to fellow feedback and constantly strive to improve our fellowship. I hope that you sincerely consider our program, and I look forward to you joining our incredible team.
