University Health Truman Medical Center

University Health Truman Medical Center (UHTMC) is a busy, urban hospital that provides a broad array of acute and outpatient services to a diverse patient population. The medical center is known for excellence in emergency and Level I trauma services, and is also recognized for programs in asthma, chronic disease management, diabetes, emergency medicine, obstetrics and high risk obstetrics, ophthalmology and women’s health. It is the busiest Adult Level I Trauma Center in Kansas City with its emergency department averaging nearly 70,000 visits annually.

On an annual basis, the 308-bed medical center admits more than 11,500 patients, provides more than 206,000 outpatient visits and performs approximately 111,000 radiology examinations. UHTMC has 329 physicians on staff, and is physically connected to Children’s Mercy Hospital and the UMKC School of Medicine, which includes a complete Health Science Library, research facilities and conference sites.

University Health Lakewood Medical Center

University Health Lakewood Medical Center (UHLMC), located in Eastern Jackson County, is the setting for the UMKC School of Medicine Department of Community and Family Medicine. With 103 patient care beds and 212 long-term care beds in the Lakewood Care Center, UHLMC is known for providing comprehensive healthcare to a diverse patient population.

The Lakewood Care Center is the only long term care center in the Kansas City area based in an inpatient setting. Lakewood Care Center provides residents access to acute and specialty care services on site. A Board Certified Geriatric Specialist serves as the full-time medical director, overseeing all patient care services. This 212-bed fully accredited long-term care center provides each resident with a fully furnished room and bath. A dedicated 20-bed Alzheimer’s/Dementia unit is located within the care center as well. Many specialty services are provided on-site and include, Audiology, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Mental Health Services, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Pulmonary, Rehabilitation Services and Sleep Medicine.

Saint Luke’s Marion Bloch Neuroscience Institute, the only dedicated neuroscience hospital in Kansas City, opened in 2013. Children's Mercy Hospital Kansas City

Children’s Mercy Hopital Kansas City is one of the country’s leading free-standing independent pediatric medical centers with 319 licensed beds, more than 40 pediatric subspecialty clinics, a Level IIIc intensive care nursery and the only Level I pediatric trauma center between St. Louis and Denver. The hospital’s faculty of more than 400 pediatric subspecialists is one of the largest in the country and is actively involved in clinical care, pediatric research and educating the next generation of pediatric specialists. Pediatric Neurology

The Division of Neurology at Children's Mercy Hospital provides a family-centered, interdisciplinary approach to encourage parents and families to make informed decisions while promoting health, optimal function, and quality of life in children with pediatric neurological disorders. The Comprehensive Epilepsy Center is nationally recognized and one of only a dozen pediatric centers in the country.

The Division of Neurology has 11 physicians who are board-certified in neurology. They have special expertise in neurophysiology, neuro-developmental disabilities and headaches. Three physicians have additional board certification in neurophysiology, and one has additional board certification in neuro-developmental disabilities. Children’s Mercy Hospital Division of Neurology has a child neurology fellowship program and three administrative staff members.
