Chair's Welcome
I am honored as the chair to welcome you to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. I am privileged to continue the legacy and long tradition of our department, which is known for its commitment to providing exceptional care to all, regardless of socioeconomic status. We strive to provide comprehensive, high quality, patient-centered care and improve the health and well-being of all women through our translational and clinical research programs.
The mission of the UMKC OB-GYN Residency program is to train compassionate, capable, lifelong learners who will become leaders in clinical care, education and research in OB-GYN and its subspecialties.
Our clinical schedule encompasses residency training in obstetrics and gynecology as well as those specializing in maternal-fetal medicine, urogynecology, pelvic and reconstructive surgery.
Clinical care is provided at several sites within easy driving distance in the metropolitan area, including University Health Truman Medical Center, Saint Luke’s Hospital Kansas City, University Health Lakewood Medical Center, and Children’s Mercy Hospital Kansas City.
Our department's vision is clear with a dedication to providing excellent care to every patient who seeks our assistance, regardless of their life phase. Our approach to patient care is centered on their needs, guided by medical knowledge, cultural competence and compassion, ensuring a comprehensive and empathetic experience.
Our research activities, conducted across all campuses, enhance our clinical training and provide a platform for our residents to explore and answer questions important to them and our patients. Scheduled stimulation activities further strengthen our residents’ clinical and surgical skills.
The department is committed to an environment that promotes the growth and wellness of all learners. We have protected time for wellness activities, resources and mentorship to optimize resident and fellows’ wellness.
Our residents and fellows chart their individual paths. Some of our graduates commit to the general practice of obstetrics and gynecology, others opt for subspecialty training, and others find a calling in academic medicine. We are committed to helping each resident fulfill their educational, clinical and personal goals.
