Quality and Safety Leadership and Innovation Award
Purpose
This award acknowledges and celebrates a faculty member who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and innovation while developing, implementing and leading Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (QIPS) initiatives at the UMKC School of Medicine and/or its affiliated hospitals. The award seeks to recognize those who inspire and empower learners at all levels, including other faculty, to become changemakers capable of transforming the healthcare system.
Description
The faculty recipient should be an individual who has significantly advanced the culture of quality and safety at the department or system level through QIPS program development, interprofessional collaboration, scholarly productivity and/or project mentorship. Examples include leading interdepartmental or system-level QI projects, publishing or integrating QIPS principles into curricula and faculty development.
Eligibility
Nominees must be current tenure-track or non-tenure-track faculty members in the UMKC School of Medicine for a minimum of five years.
Nomination Guidelines and Required Materials
Please submit the following materials as a single PDF:
- Nomination Letter
- A narrative detailing the nominee’s contributions to QIPS leadership and innovation, including specific examples of impact on patient care, systems improvement, education or scholarship.
- Outcome measures such as projects mentored, publications/presentations and other recognitions/awards should be included.
- Anecdotes illustrating the nominee’s influence on the quality and safety culture at UMKC are encouraged.
- Each nominator is encouraged to solicit additional letters of support for their nominee, not to exceed three letters (not to exceed two typed pages), from colleagues, mentees or collaborators who can attest to the nominee’s contributions and impact in the QIPS field.
- For consideration, the nominee must provide to the nominator a one- to two-page narrative describing their philosophy and approach to QIPS leadership, mentorship and scholarship.
- A current focused CV of the nominee highlighting QIPS-related activities, leadership roles, publications, presentations, grants and/or program development.
