It is necessary that your application, USMLE scores, Dean’s letter, three letters of reference, and your medical school transcript be filed via ERAS before a decision regarding an interview can be made. Applicants will be notified via e-mail of decisions for interview. Interviews are generally held on Monday during October – January
You’ll have the opportunity to meet with our program administration through virtual interviews and participate in an open forum with our residents.
Yes. The program has been continuously accredited since 1951.
The program offers elective rotations for senior medical students currently enrolled at accredited allopathic or osteopathic schools of medicine in the United States. These electives affords the applicant and the program an opportunity to get to know one another. The program does not offer externships.
All applications submitted through ERAS are considered.
Yes.
All residents receive funds added to their UH badge as a lump sum at the beginning of the year. These funds can be used while on any rotation.
Lunch is provided to PGY1/PGY2 residents on Tuesdays, during didactics. Lunch is also provided to all residents during scheduled residency meetings.
In addition, when working at CBM and on call shifts, there is a fully stocked resident lounge and kitchen area filled with snacks, drinks, and microwavable meals funded directly by the residency program.
Residents are invited to take place in scheduled wellness days spread throughout the year. These days typically take the spot of a normally scheduled day of didactics. Residents are released and free of all clinical obligations to work on team bonding, group processing and strategies to promote general wellbeing in the work place.
There is a newly implemented snack station in the outpatient clinic for residents and attendings to utilize.
Each resident is provided access to the UMKC Health Sciences Library. In addition, each resident is offered remote access for UptoDate, and other specific psychiatry textbooks and online resources.
The program offers research mentorship for residents who wish to join or start projects.
Each incoming PGY1 is paired with a current PGY1 to help introduce them into residency and provide support throughout training.
Each PGY1 will have an additional upper year resident with them for their first several call shifts. These are “buddy calls”, ensuring that new residents understand how to manage call responsibilities.
Yes, there are scheduled social events throughout the year, such as our Welcome event, holiday event and graduation. There are also a mix of social events organized by the resident association each year.
Each resident class has the opportunity to participate in a half day of wellness two to four times per year.
