It’s simple: the supportive culture and warm, welcoming people make it feel like home. I have a knack for soaking up music vibes, strolling through scenic trails, conquering hiking trails, and mastering the fine art of napping whenever and wherever possible! Where do you live? During an elective in Kansas City, I fell in love with the city and the program at UMKC. I chose UMKC because of the academic support within the program. UMKC not only provides academic and clinical encounters to improve my clinical skills, but also offers research opportunities for residents. Moreover, I have been to Kansas City twice and love the city. I always enjoy visiting galleries and having the famous KC BBQ. During these three years of residency training, I hope to try every famous KC BBQ restaurant. What are your interests? During my free time, I enjoy swimming. I chose the residency program at UMKC due to its excellent training opportunities and the chance to work with diverse populations in various hospitals. Additionally, having friends in the area and enjoying the atmosphere that Kansas City offers were significant factors in my decision. What are your interests? I enjoy cricket, Game of Thrones and the local barbecue culture. Where do you live? Westport Medical School: University of Missouri – Kansas City Why did you choose UMKC? I went to UMKC for both undergraduate and medical school and loved the faculty and the training that we received. Between being a great academic program and having family in the area, it made UMKC an easy choice. What are your interests? River Market Medical School: Armed Forces Medical College Why did you choose UMKC? If I had to choose one word, that would certainly be Program Leadership. I was fortunate to have friends who are in training or have graduated from this program and their feedback was overwhelmingly positive. The program provides a robust clinical experience in multiple settings, opportunity to pursue research, tailored support for individual career goals. What are your interests? Soccer is my ‘thing’. Although, its mostly on the couch with the console these days. Where do you live? Westport Medical School: Tecnológico de Monterrey Escuela de Medicina Why did you choose UMKC? I chose UMKC for the warmth and strong camaraderie among residents, and the immense support provided by the faculty. The diverse patient population with excellent clinical training was also one of the reasons that drew me to UMKC. What are your interests? I enjoy visiting museums, playing tennis and other racket sports, and dining out with my wife and friends. Where do you live? Union Hill. I love how close it is to the WW1 Memorial and Costco. Medical School: Kansas City University Why did you choose UMKC? One of my main reasons for choosing UMKC for residency was due to the strong support system that I have in Kansas City. My wife did the 6 year program at UMKC, and she is currently completing her residency at UMKC as well. I rotated through University Health and St. Luke’s for my entire fourth year and met a lot of the staff and residents. Everyone was so kind and helpful, and the attendings enjoyed taking time to teach the students and the residents. Ultimately, UMKC felt like a program that could provide excellent learning opportunities in an environment that I could thrive in. What are your interests? Anything outdoors. UMKC was on my mind from the very beginning. It didn’t take long for me to decide to rank it first. The wonderful community of super friendly residents and attendings, among which I aspire to be trained and nourished, made the decision easier. Also, the opportunity to train at two prestigious hospitals offers a unique learning experience that I believe will significantly enhance my clinical skills and prepare me for a successful career. UMKC’s residency program has many amazing educational opportunities with a wide variety of pathologies to learn from and treat. Medical School: University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Medicine In 2017, Caroline began school at the UMKC School of Medicine, where she was fortunate to have many wonderful mentors that ultimately furthered her interest in Internal Medicine. Why did you choose UMKC? In my training at UMKC School of Medicine, I encountered many graduates of the program, as well as current residents. I was always in awe of their intelligence, empathy, and humility. These attributes are reflections of the education that UMKC provides their residents. My husband and I are also from Kansas City, and truly have a love for the town. We are midwesterners through and through, and so this combination of factors made UMKC the perfect fit for our family. What are your interests? I’ve been singing in my church choir since I was a little girl! I love the peace and happiness that music can bring to people. I also love photography and scrapbooking! The robust training experience across 2 different hospital systems, the support for pursuing competitive fellowships and the culture of camaraderie are some of the many reasons why I chose UMKC. Kansas City is the hidden gem of the Midwest, where the people are always nice and there is always some new activity to explore, while boasting a reasonable cost of living. I love the River Market and the Power and Light district, and on the game days of the KC Chiefs, it feels like a festival all around. What are your interests? Saeed Suleiman, M.D. Medical School: Al-Balqa Applied University Bio: I was born and raised in Amman, Jordan. I graduated from Al-Balqa’ Applied University in 2023. I decided to pursue a residency in internal medicine because I am fascinated by the intricacy and complexity of the field, which resonates with my other passion, computer science. Why did you choose UMKC? UMKC was the obvious choice for me because I aimed to gain extensive residency experience to establish a strong foundation as an internist. Watching Movies, Soccer, Volleyball Mohammad Adam, M.D. Medical School: University of Khartoum Bio: I was born and raised in UAE and returned to my home country to finish medical school at the University of Khartoum. The rigor of residency & fellowship training at HMC, Qatar, has developed many of my clinical skills. My interest is in pursuing a GI fellowship. Why did you choose UMKC? I came to know about UMKC from my friends. The reputation of the residency program in teaching and mentorship opportunities is incredible. Union Hill Zain Al-Momani, M.D. Medical School: Jordan University of Science and Technology Bio: I am originally from Jordan, where I went to med school. I developed a great interest for Internal Medicine early in my clinical training and decided to pursue my residency here in the US since then. Looking ahead, I am keeping my options open for future goals but hoping to continue in academia. Why did you choose UMKC? Why not? The Plaza Medical School: University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Bio: I was born in El Salvador and moved to Texas when I was eight years old. I completed my undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin and medical degree from University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. I chose UMKC for 4 main reasons: great clinical training, faculty invested in resident training/education, great resident camaraderie, and my family ties to the KC area. What are your interests? Kansas City, MO Medical School: University of Missouri – Kansas City Bio: I was born and raised in Kansas City all my life and I love it here. I am half Persian and half Palestinian, and I am lucky to celebrate that heritage with my family. I finished medical school at Al-Quds University. I then returned to medical school and worked as a research and teaching assistant in the histopathology department for 3 years before coming to UMKC. My passion for internal medicine started during my clinical rotations. Since high school, I’ve loved academics. My main goal is to mix academic and clinical internal medicine. Downtown KC Greeshma Erasani, M.D. Medical School: Gandhi Medical College Bio: I was born and raised in the Southern part of India and graduated from Medical School in Hyderabad, a city known for its myriad cuisines. Then I moved to Kansas City for residency. With regard to fellowship, I am keeping an open mind. Why did you choose UMKC? People at UMKC are so friendly and supportive of one another that it fosters a close-knit and supportive campus community. Kansas City, MO Medical School: Government Medical College Bio: I am from India and that is where I attended medical school. The interview experience and the virtual meeting with the residents were truly amazing. It showed me that people here are nice and friendly. The reason I ranked UMKC on the top is that it is a university program with tremendous learning opportunities for residents. Rotating between Saint Luke’s Hospital and the University Health Truman Medical Center, residents are exposed to a diverse patient population. Where do you live? Beacon Hills Medical School: University of Missouri – Kansas City Bio: I was born in raised in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, so Kansas City has always been “home” to me. I received my undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from the University of Missouri-Columbia (MIZ!) and returned to complete a traditional 4-year MD program at UMKC. Why did you choose UMKC? Being from KC and having my family here, it was an easy choice! I love being able to serve the city that has treated me so well. What are your interests? I’ll try just about any activity as long as I have family or friends with me! Where do you live? Waldo/Brookside Medical School: B.J. Medical College Bio: I was born and raised in Gujarat, India, where I went to medical school as well. After that, I did a year of research fellowship at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida. I am interested in pursuing Cardiology in the future. Why did you choose UMKC? For me, the biggest reason for choosing UMKC was the strong clinical experience you get at two different hospitals with different and diverse patient populations. Additionally, the program is very supportive, along with strong camaraderie among residents, and immense support from the faculty. This is something you would want in a program where you will spend 3 years. I also plan to pursue Cardiology and UMKC offers an excellent opportunity to pursue my aspirations, including immense support for research. What are your interests? I went to medical school in Mangalore, and after graduating in 2021, I moved to Memphis, Tennessee, and lived there for a couple of years. I was thrilled to match at the UMKC IM program and move to Kansas City for residency. Why did you choose UMKC? Midtown Medical School: Zhongshan School of Medicine Bio: Born and raised in Southern China, I took my first steps into medicine at Sun Yat-sen University Zhongshan School of Medicine. I later deepened my understanding of immunology and rheumatology during my Ph.D. studies at Peking Union Medical School. This journey led me across the globe to Stanford, where I was fortunate to contribute as a Postdoctoral Fellow. Why did you choose UMKC and what do you love about Kansas City? UMKC and Kansas City met my requirements in regards to the training program itself and a place to live. At the same time, I am originally from Jordan. As for me, I have always been feeling attached to both Jordan and Qatar. Saqr Alsakarneh, M.D. Medical School: Al-Balqa Applied University Faculty of Medicine Bio: I was born and raised in Amman, Jordan. I love extracurricular activities. Therefore I founded an organization that provides medical missions to the underprivileged people and was the president of the students’ council at my university. On the other side, I love internal medicine and have a long-term goal of becoming a Gastroenterologist working in academic settings. Why did you choose UMKC, and what do you love about Kansas City? I ranked UMKC on the top of my list because it is a University-based program with a very strong academic record and a very high fellowship match rate. Additionally, being trained at two large and very advanced hospitals is a big plus. I like the fact that Kansas City is a big city but at the same time feels like a small town. What are your interests? I love Soccer, hiking, traveling, and video games. Of course, trying new food and doing BBQ is a big thing also! Where do you live? Union hill, Kansas City Medical School: Universidad de Montemorelos Escuela de Medicina Bio: I was born and raised in Sonora, Mexico. My parents, who were unconditionally compassionate for those who were most in need, inspired me to pursue a career in Medicine. I went to medical school in Montemorelos, Mexico. I volunteered in several medical brigades throughout the north and south of Mexico while I was in medical school and after I graduated. I did postdoctoral research fellow in cardiovascular diseases at the University of Missouri, Columbia, before beginning my residency. After completing my residency, I plan to pursue a fellowship in cardiology. Why did you choose UMKC? UMKC is a recognized institution well known for training residents with a strong medical experience. University Health and St. Luke’s Hospital provide the perfect learning environment to become a qualified physician to work in an outpatient or inpatient setting. KC is a metropolis with the advantages of a small city: good people, food, parks, near state parks, and a nice spring and summer. What are your interests? I like outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking, and camping. Career wise, I’m currently undecided on being a hospitalist vs primary care, so I’m keeping an open mind for all future options. Why did you choose Kansas City and what do you love about Kansas City? UMKC offered strong clinical training with a diverse patient population at its training hospitals. I love that Kansas City nearly always has something going on for people to try or do in the city. I’m especially excited that KC appears to be getting more recognition of what it has to offer, as it will be a host city in the 2026 Fifa World Cup! What are your interests? The camaraderie and friendly environment that I noticed since my interview day. Since my early years in medicine, I had the opportunity to participate in a year-long observership program in Houston Tx in St. Joseph Hospital. I love football soccer in general, watching it, playing it, and talking about it, I also like playing board games with friends and knowing new places with my wife. Where do you live? When I applied for the residency, I was looking for a training program to enhance my medical experience, add to my knowledge, and take me through an exceptional training journey. Where do you live? I live in Midtown, Kansas City Medical School: Osmania Medical College Bio: I was born and raised in a small town called Tenali, India. Was a happy-go-lucky guy in my hometown until highschool and then moved to Hyderabad for medschool. From Hyderabad to Kansas City was a big leap emotionally, culturally. I’ve had this passion for procedures and like to be adept with hands.I am inclined towards GI because It balances my quench for procedures and be a good hospitalist at the same time. Why did you choose UMKC, and what do you love about Kansas City? It was a no-brainer for me to rank UMKC as my top program. I chose UMKC for the people, 3 years is no short time and when you’re working, time flows super slow. Being surrounded by the right people makes the entire difference in your journey. Everyone here is very thoughtful, caring and accommodating. Virtual interviews made it hard and I visited Kansas City for the first time only after I matched. I fell in love with KC within the few days I got here. After a long day at work there is always something cool happening within a few miles. I love the fountains, parks and walking around in Plaza. You can still not give up the big city life and enjoy the small town feel here. What are your interests? I love playing racquet sports a lot. Tennis, Badminton, Squash, Pickleball, Volleyball, Cricket. I enjoy running, listening to old music. I wouldn’t call it photography but I take good pictures with my phone. Ujjwal Madan, M.D. Medical School: University College of Medical Sciences Bio: I am from New Delhi, India. I attended my medical school in New Delhi as well, and graduated in 2021. It’s been an exciting journey moving to Kansas City for my Internal Medicine residency training. In the long run, I am interested in academic medicine with an inclination towards Rheumatology. Why did you choose UMKC and what do you love about Kansas City? I chose the UMKC family for the warmth and strong camaraderie among residents, and the immense support provided by the faculty. The diverse patient population with excellent clinical training was also one of the reasons that drew me to UMKC. Kansas City has an amazing vibe and lots of great food options, along with having all the big city amenities without the hassles. People here are friendly and it already feels like home. What are your interests: I enjoy the Indian classical dance Kathak, reading fiction novels, quilling, and hanging out with my friends and family. Where do you live? Plaza, MO Medical School: B.J. Medical College, Ahmedabad Bio: I was born and raised in Ahmedabad, India and that’s where I did my Medical School. I pursued a Research Fellowship in GI Oncology at Mayo Clinic Florida. I am interested in pursuing a Hem/Onc Fellowship after IM Residency and my long term goal is to engage in clinical/translational research to enhance outcomes for cancer patients in addition to clinical practice. Why did you choose UMKC and what do you love about Kansas City? UMKC because you get to work at two different hospitals which have a varied patient population. The residents and attendings are very supportive and empathetic. The hospital staff is very friendly and the overall atmosphere is collegial. Kansas City because it is indeed a big city (plenty of things to do) with a small town feel (people are hospitable, less congestion on roads). Plus I am a KC Chiefs fan and what better place to cheer for them than Kansas City itself. What are your interests? I like to play outdoor sports like tennis and cricket and watch American Football. Roeland Park, KS Pavlisin, M.D. Medical School: University of Missouri – Kansas City, School of Medicine Bio: I’m from St. Louis, MO, but moved to Kansas City in 2011 to attend the 6 Year B.A./M.D. program. After graduating in 2017, I spent the next 5 years in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina as a Medical Officer in the United States Navy. I split time working as a Battalion Surgeon with the Marine Corps and as a General Medical Officer at Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command – Charleston. During this time, I discovered my passion for medical education, which is where I hope to spend the rest of my medical career. Why did you choose UMKC and what do you love about Kansas City? I fell in love with Kansas City while here for college and medical school; I also fell in love with a Kansas City girl who followed me in my journey with the Navy. After we welcomed our daughter in 2022, we were super excited to get the opportunity to come back home to our family and friends. What are your interests? I love the Kansas City Chiefs, St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Blues. I like doing some amateur woodworking and playing golf. As a family, we enjoy spending time on our family farm. Gladstone, MO Medical School: Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital Bio: I was born and raised in Bangkok, Thailand, where I also went to medical school. I went to become a research fellow in Cleveland Clinic before I moved to Kansas City for internal medicine residency training. My long-term goal is to be a physician-scientist in hematology-oncology where I can develop novel treatment strategies to improve patient outcomes. Since the beginning of my medical school I’ve been fascinated by the field of Hematology-Oncology and Palliative Care. I moved to KC four years ago to go to medical school. During my third year of medical school I had my daughter Isla. Why did you choose UMKC and what do you love about KC? Kansas City feels like a home for me as I have been living here for almost 2 years, I gained so many fruitful experiences at Saint Luke’s health system and at KUMC the year before; established lifelong friends and family. Bio: I was born in Bangkok, Thailand. I graduated from Siriraj Hospital and completed my Internal Medicine Residency training at Chiang Mai University. After my graduation, I worked as an internist and research assistant at the Cardiac Electrophysiology Research and Training Center at Chiang Mai University, Thailand. I have a passion for becoming a cardiologist.

Bio: I was born in Highland Park Illinois and I grew up in Tulsa Oklahoma. I moved to Kansas City where I attended UMKC for both undergraduate and medical school. I am excited to continue my education at UMKC!
Chitramalya Dan, M.D.
Bio: I was born and raised in eastern India, in the city of joy, Kolkata. I moved far south to Pune to attend medical school and graduated in 2017. On graduating, I was commissioned into the Indian Army and served as a Medical Officer in various commands across the subcontinent. I retired with decorations in 2022 and pursued my long-time dream of practicing medicine in the United States.
I am interested in both academia and providing specialized care. As an intern, I will keep an open mind and explore!
KC is a gem of the Midwest. The city shares my love for sports and I can’t get enough of the BBQ here!
I am also into hiking, road-biking, and board games! Pickleball found me at KC and I am a fan already. I’m always excited to try new restaurants and cuisines or spice things up in the kitchen for friends and family. Also hoping to eventually graduate from Topgolf to a real golf course.

Bio: I was born and raised in St. Louis, MO. I have been all around Missouri for school before ending up in Kansas City for medical school at Kansas City University. I began my journey to become a physician with the goal of becoming an oncologist, but I recently have been considering pulmonary/critical care after a great rotation in the ICU during my fourth year.
Bio: I was born in Kuwait, raised in Yemen, and later returned to Egypt, my home country, to start medical school at Cairo University. Bio: Caroline Ramsey is a Kansas City native, and is so excited to be staying here for residency. She grew up north of the river and attended St. Pius X High School, where she met her husband, Ben. During high school, her grandmother, Carolyn, was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis and came to live with Caroline’s family. Caroline would rush home from school every afternoon to share news from the day and watch the Royals on their path to the 2015 World Series. Helping to care for her grandmother in her last year of life solidified Caroline’s love for medicine.
