Salary

Our residents are paid according to the house staff salary schedule outlined by the Department of Graduate Medical Education (GME). MedPeds residents also receive an additional $1,800 of pay per year for a pediatrics stipend plus an extra week of vacation during Christmas or New Years, which is not reflected in the house staff salary breakdown.

Additional Benefits

As a MedPeds resident, you also have access to perks outside of the UM System package. Explore the benefits available to you.

  • Meal money is provided at all three hospitals. Lunch is also provided for many afternoon conferences.
  • Free covered parking at all hospitals.
  • Monogrammed white coats and scrubs are provided to start your intern year.
  • PGY-2 through PGY-4 years are allotted seven paid leave days per year to attend conferences.
  • USMLE III and Comlex Level III paid by UMKC if application submitted after employment and taken during PGY-1 year of training.
  • Educational resources
    • $350 during your intern year to purchase a smart-device or other resource of your choice
    • $1,000 per year during years 2-4 from UMKC GME
    • $1,000 total to be used over your 4 years from Children's Mercy GME
    • International Elective Aid of $1,000 while at Children's Mercy if you take an elective during a call-free month
    • Free American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) ITE Exams
    • $500 towards ABP Certifying Exam
  • Presentation funds
    • $500 of UMKC research presentation funds are available once per academic year for residents who travel to present research from UMKC
    • $2,250 per year is available from Children's Mercy for residents who present pediatric research and/or pediatric board prep
